Dr. Blatz performed knee replacement surgery on my left knee five years ago (at age 59), and I continue to be amazed at the mobility, durability, and pain-free use of knee. I would never know that the knee had been replaced if it were not for the almost invisible scar at the outer curve of the knee area. My healing was very speedy and successful, and even the physical therapists who worked with me were very impressed by the range of motion I had almost immediately after surgery. I have recommended Dr. Blatz to several friends, and will continue to do so.

I met with an accident and ended up with a communited fracture of the right Tibia in 2001, in India. I had a stiff knee and was unable to squat, cycle, run, or walk fast enough for about 2.5 years. I was referred to Dr. Douglas Blatz by a colleague. The Dr. suggested and performed an Arthroscopy on my right knee to remove the scar tissues and flex the joint. It was a 30 min procedure after which he prescribed the CPM to be used at home - along with rigorous physical therapy. Thanks to him, I can now bike, squat, and even hike Half Dome and Mt. Diablo, despite having several metallic implantations on my knee/ tibia. The Dr. sees his patients on Tuesday and Thursdays only, and spends short, but quality time in his diagnosis. I would recommend him any day for sport and orthoscopic injuries.

I was recommended to Dr. Blatz from a doctor doing his fellowship at the Truckee Medical Center after suffering a knee injury while skiing. I must state I had never been injured before and have Anthem Blue Cross as my health care provider. I was relieved that Dr. Blatz was primary care physician within the Blue Cross system. I was able to get in to see him within a day of getting back to the Bay Area. His staff was very friendly and polite. Dr. Blatz is a man of few words, and unless you have a specific question he is off to the rest of his patients in other examining rooms. They gave me a prescription to have an MRI done to see the extent of the damage. Unfortunately, they sent me to an Imaging Center that was not accepting Blue Cross (was billed $1800). It turns out this was a new imaging center and they were in the process of getting approved with Blue Cross, so through a series of calls I was able to get this billing issue resolved. Upon getting the MRI results I ended up with a torn ACL and torn meniscus. Surgery was scheduled for the following week. The surgery went well and was off to physical therapy within a few days after surgery. With in a couple of weeks of the surgery I get a bill ($1300) from the anesthesiologist that helped with the surgery. It seems the anesthesiologist is not a primary care physician with Blue Cross. I would have thought since Dr. Blatz's office knew I have Blue Cross they would use a anesthesiologist that was approved. When I questioned their choice, the office had nothing to say. Now, the surgery was performed approximately a year ago and I get a bill from the Surgery Center that Dr. Blatz has an interest. It seems Blue Cross paid them last June and I now into the next year get a bill for my portion. Since this is a new year, my deductible and maximum out of pocket is reset to zero, so I cannot claim this amount for '09. My knee is still not 100%, and I'm not sure if it ever will be, but I am satisfied with Dr. Blatz's medical treatment, just not the business practices. What I have learned is to ask questions and keep asking until you understand everything. I am considering switching over my health care provider to an HMO to hopefully avoid some of the pitfalls of having to stay "in network" on every medical aspect.
